Zangief
CHARACTER OVERVIEW:
Many believe that Zangief has entered the tournament out of his fierce respect for his country, but they are only partially correct. Zangief loves his country, but he loves to stomp on his opponents even more. What else would you expect from a man who wrestles bears for fun? Good natured with a great sense of humor, Zangief loves to fight. He left the Russian Wrestling Federation because of lack of competition and now seeks suitable opponents wherever he can find them. Totally fearless, Zangief is more than willing to walk into a punch as long as he can grab his opponent and drive them into the pavement with his Spinning Pile Driver. Zangief left wrestling because it lacked suitable competition for him. This massive man has tremendous strength and the potential for good, but he's as dumb as a stump. Zangief has a continuing feud boiling between himself and the powerful Edmond Honda. The two behemoths seem to enjoy the challenge they bring out in each other during hand-to-hand combat. To destroy his enemies, Zangief prefers using his fighting skills rather than a rocket launcher, although they are equally destructive. Although he joins the forces of good at the end of the Shadaloo incident, he returns to work for the evil Shadaloo organization afterwards.

THOUGHTS ON THE CHARACTER:
Zangief is quite possibly my second favorite Street Fighter character of all time. Andrew Bryniarski was an excellent pick for Zangief. He managed to capture the adorably stupid yet innocent and loyal personality of Zangief quite well. He also gets some of the best lines in the film ("QVICK!!! CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!!"). Although Zangief finds out that he's been working for the bad guys all along, and joins the good guys at the end of the film, he returns to the bad guy side in the animated cartoon. He still retains the character's essence in the cartoon. Michael Donovan does a great job as Zangief in the cartoon. He has a lot of great lines, some great moments and his use of Russian words like "tovarich" and "devushka" is quite appreciated. Zangief is one of the best characters in the American canon and a very popular character with fans.
