Ken Masters
CHARACTER OVERVIEW:
A disciple of the Shotokan school of karate, Ken Masters is a natural athlete. Unfortunately, his natural fighting skill has fueled his giant ego and he is constantly reminding his opponents that he is the greatest fighter of all time. For the past year, he's let his skills deteriorate and has spent most of his time on the beach with his girlfriend. Only a challenge from his old training partner, Ryu, has rekindled his fighting spirit. Brash and arrogant, Ken Masters loves to show off during a fight. After knocking his opponent senseless with his Fireball, he loves to stand over his opponents and laugh at them. Ken is an extraordinary fighter - powerful, yet with a good sense of humor. He was once a cunning, wise-cracking "jokester" and conman who, with his partner Ryu, traveled the world in search of adventure and worthy opponents to battle. Persuaded by Colonel Guile to go undercover, the two master martial artists worked to defeat the evil General Bison and Sagat, who planned to conquer the world. Ken Masters had to use his bravery and cunning to maintain world peace, and save innocent hostages held captive by Bison. After the Shadaloo incident, Ken became a member of Escher's Street Fighter operation.

THOUGHTS ON THE CHARACTER:
As a character, Ken is very appealing and entertaining. Damian Chapa may not look or move like Ken, but I was quite impressed with his acting. He nails the playful, arrogant yet caring personality of Ken perfectly and he has some good moments and excellent facial expressions. He does a very odd Dragon Punch, but that, along with his look, is a minor flaw. He plays the role with a lot of passion and he really made the character come to life. In both the movie and in the cartoon, Ken is a little bit more prominent that Ryu, getting to fight very powerful opponents like Sagat and Akuma. Scott McNeil's performance in the cartoon is quite impressive and really nails all the aspects of Ken's personality. Like his fellow Shotokan fighter, Ken's popularity has increased over the years, thanks to his protagonism in the video games. But nonetheless, I still find his American incarnation appealing.
