Guile
CHARACTER OVERVIEW:
An ex-member of an elite Special Forces team, Guile and his co-pilot Charlie were captured during a mission in Thailand six years ago. After many months of imprisonment, he and Charlie managed to escape from their jungle prison. During the perilous trek to civilization, Charlie was recaptured and Guile has been consumed by anger ever since. Guile's calm and emotionless exterior hides rage inside. Driven by his need for revenge, he will let nothing stand in his way. Using a unique blend of Special Forces training and street fighting skills, Guile is a force to be reckoned with. As a Colonel, Guile knows only one way to attack an enemy: HARD! Getting socked by his Sonic Boom Punch is like getting hit by a freight train at full speed - you don't exactly get up and walk away! As a Special Forces commander, Guile knows how to give orders and expects them to be followed. His troops respect him not just because of his size and strength, but because of his courage and commitment to protect the world from evil, and from the diabolical General Bison! After the Shadaloo conflict, Guile faced court martial and was expelled from the AN forces and joined Escher's Street Fighter operation.

THOUGHTS ON THE CHARACTER:
Guile is the quintessential American hero. Tough, brave and honorable, Guile is quite popular with fans due to his design, hairstyle and due to the American flag tattoo he has in his forearm. Jean-Claude Van Damme may seem like an odd choice to play Guile at first, especially with his thick accent, but he really embraces the role and seems to be enjoying it a lot. The sense of humor he showcases in the movie isn't shown very often in any other movie he's in, which is a huge shame, because Van Damme has a lot of funny moments (like the "trying to scare Bison Troopers with a small knife and getting cocky about it" moment) and his accent adds a lot of fun value to the film. Mark Stefanich did a great job of emulating Van Damme in some digitizing shots for the game (and he was Van Damme's stunt double). Michael Donovan is a great choice to play Guile in the American cartoon. He sounds tough, brave and I really loved the fact that everytime he yelled "SONIC BOOM!!!" it always had that sort of rage that Guile hides in his interior. The only thing I didn't like about the cartoon was the fact that he was always treated badly due to being expelled from the A.N. after court martial. Other than that, he's just a great character to have as a leader.
